Why STaiRwaY?
Upon taking a glance on my blog, STAIRWAY... maybe you'll ask why STAIRWAY? What is in it? Well, I chose STAIRWAY simply because it speaks of taking a STEP either going up or going down in order to reach the next level or even reach a place where you want to go. It is my avenue to reach out to the world and share my hopes and aspirations in life as well as sharing the wonders of dwelling here in the Philippines.

A Day with the Governor of Cebu, Philippines

Yesterday, December 9, 2009 was a very hectic schedule for me reason why I failed to post a new blog. Where was I? I attended a grand celebration sponsored by DepEd, Cebu (Department Of Education) at CICC (Cebu International Convention Center) Summit Hall, the famous hall where the 12th ASEAN Summit was held some time ago.
As a school administrator of Giloctog National High School, one of the public high schools here in the province of Cebu, Philippines, I was mandated to attend the "PASIDUNGOG". This is a tribute to Honorable Gwen F. Garcia, Governor of Cebu. The DepEd Cebu family hosted this affair to honor our dear Governor for the countless blessings, the unending support and exemplary leadership she had bestowed to DepEd Cebu.
It was highly attended by all school administrators both elementary and secondary.  Significant personalities also joined us like the different barangay captains and PTA (Parent Teacher Association) presidents. The presence of various celebreties like Honorable Bongbong Marcos, Congressman of Ilocos Norte who walked an extra mile just to be with us together with Mr. Glen Soco, the handsome co-chairman of  the GUV CUP (Governor Gwen Garcia United Volleyball Cup)  who has an artistahing dating made the event a very remarkable one. Mr. Jesli A. Lapus, Secretary of Education arrived from Manila just to grace the occasion.  A representative from the private sector in the person of Mr. Jomar Mercado of Bigfoot Asia Foundation blessed also the affair. Top ranking officials from DepEd Region VII Office was also well represented by Dr.Carolino Mordeno, DepEd Consultant of Central Visayas for Website with Region VII Regional Director Recaredo G. Borgonia. Our very own Schools Division Superintendent welcomed all the guests and other spectators. Media personalities took videos and photos for their national and local dailies.
A thanksgiving mass opened the event after which the bequeathal of the Governor's various projects for DepEd Cebu followed. A symbolic turnover of the key of a Kia Double Cab for DepEd use was received by our SDS Arden D. Monisit. She also handed various school buildings to Elementary and Secondary Schools of DepEd Cebu. Several school supplies like notebooks, paper, pencil, ruler, plastic envelopes all placed in school bags were also given to all pupils and students of the whole province of Cebu. Lesson plans and class records were also received by all teachers in the province as well as executive bags for administrators which I also received. 300 computer units and multimedia packages were also distributed to some schools which my school was one of  the recipient school. Not just that, her generosity urged her to sign a MOA(Memorandum of Agreement) between the province and DepEd represented by Sec. Lapus for the free use of the IPHO building located at Sudlon, Lahug, Cebu City which costs 300,000.00 php rental per month but it was for free. "Thanks to you Governor Gwen" was shouted aloud inside the hall.
The celebration was highlighted by the awarding of a plaque of recognition  to the Governor  by Secretary Lapus. "She is a superlative lady" according to him.
It was ended with the shouting of the DepEd motto: "Edukasyon Ang Solusyon" and the Governor's motto: "Dili Sulti Maoy Pabuhaton Kondili Buhat Maoy Pasultihon".

Hello mam, may I ask you a question? where is this Giloctog?

Is this "Pasidungog" is open only to a public schools?

Mary Ann December 12, 2009 at 8:20 AM

Giloctog is 7 km away fr. the heart of Barili town. Pasidungog is for both public & private school in Cebu Province Division only because it was DepEd Cebu Division who hosted that tribute. Thanks for visiting.
